Another son, Willie, came along in 1850 and his fourth son, Thomas “Tad” Lincoln” was born in 1853. Lincoln doted on his children, and was a caring loving father, by all accounts. He was not known as a strict father, in stark contrast with his own tough upbringing. Family life also proved to be a tragic aspect for Abraham Lincoln, however, as only one of his sons would live past the age of 18.
